Electrical Systems

Auto electrical repair covers the battery, alternator, starter, wiring, fuses, and the modules that run lights, windows, locks and accessories. Sully's Auto Repair in Huntington Beach diagnoses and repairs electrical system problems on cars, trucks and SUVs.

Signs it is time to bring it in

  • The engine cranks slowly or just clicks
  • The battery warning light is on
  • The battery keeps going dead
  • Headlights dim at idle or flicker
  • A fuse keeps blowing
  • Windows, locks or accessories work on and off

Start with testing, not parts

A car that will not start can have a weak battery, a failing alternator, a worn starter, a corroded connection, or something draining the battery while it is parked. They look alike from the driver’s seat. We test the battery, the charging system and the starting circuit to find which one it is before anything is replaced.

Intermittent problems

Electrical faults that come and go are the hardest to find. It helps to tell us exactly when it happens: hot or cold, wet weather, over bumps, or with certain accessories on.

Electrical Systems: questions and answers

How do I know if it is the battery or the alternator?
If the car starts after a jump and keeps running, the battery is the likely suspect. If it starts with a jump and dies again soon after, or the battery light is on while driving, the alternator may not be charging. A charging system test settles it.
Why does my battery keep dying?
Common causes are a battery at the end of its life, an alternator that is not charging fully, corroded or loose connections, or a parasitic draw, which is something staying on and draining the battery while the car is parked.
How long does a car battery last?
Most last about three to five years. Heat shortens battery life, so batteries in Southern California often land at the lower end of that range.
Do you warranty your repairs?
Yes. We back our repairs with a 12-month, 12,000-mile warranty.
Can I get same-day service?
In most cases, yes. How long a job takes depends on the repair and on parts, so call (714) 841-1245 and we will tell you what to expect for your vehicle.
Will I get an estimate before any work is done?
Yes. California law requires a written estimate and your authorization before repair work begins. Nothing is done to your vehicle until you approve it.
